7 Foods That Lower Blood Pressure and a Magic Bullet

How do you control high blood pressure (hypertension in medical lingo)?

I think many people who have high blood pressure end up getting a prescription for some drugs to help alleviate the problem. For some this may be a solution, but for others the thought of taking a prescription drug, let alone paying for it for the rest of their lives makes them search for a better solution.

There is a better solution, but it requires you to put forth some effort.

I’m going to show you some common foods and common sense habits that will help lower your blood pressure and then for the grand finale I’m going to give you a tool that will not only lower your blood pressure, but will also just make you feel better all around.

Okay, let’s get started. What you eat affects your blood pressure right? I don’t think that is a secret, but I bet you only thought about foods that you shouldn’t eat because they can raise your blood pressure.

How about food that Lower your Blood Pressure?

They exist and here are seven to get you started.

1. Spinach – Popeye didn’t eat this only for strength! The key here is the magnesium content of spinach. The National Institutes of Health(NIH) says that eating foods high in magnesium can help lower your risk of hypertension.

Also try these high magnesium foods – almonds, cashews, shredded wheat and oatmeal.

2. Sweet Potatoes – The nutrient in sweet potatoes helping us out is potassium. Don’t like Sweet Potatoes, then grab a banana which is also a potassium powerhouse.

3. Dark Chocolate – Do I have to twist your arm on this one? Didn’t think so, but this doesn’t mean more is better. Limit yourself to a small square a day. The effects seem to be attributed to a substance found in cocoa beans called flavonol.

4. Olive Oil – Try using an Olive Oil salad dressing to get the benefits from this blood pressure benefactor.

5. Whole Wheat Bread – Fiber is your friend and whole grains have it. Good for the colon and the blood pressure.

6. Fish – Omega-3 fatty acids. Just plain good for you! Don’t like fish? Then get a supplement form.

7. Low-Fat Milk – A recent study found that middle-aged and older women who drank more low-fat diary with Calcium and Vitamin D has a lower risk of hypertension.

You may also want to stop eating at McDonald’s! Seriously, food that is unprocessed, meaning not coming in a box is the best thing you can do for your body.

Okay, so we know that food affects your blood pressure and I’m sure you’re exercising right? Well if you are not exercising start! This doesn’t mean 2 hour trips to the gym. Just take some time each day to take a walk. Soon you will have more energy and will want to exert your body!

There is one more thing that I believe will help your hypertension and ease just about any health issue you may be having.

Meditation

I am seeing meditation being cited in more and more studies showing how it reduced stress levels, lowered blood pressure, and just plain made people happier! My biggest question was why aren’t more people doing it!

The answer is that they don’t know how! Have you ever tried to sit for 30 minutes and not do anything? It’s dang hard in this world.
