How To Avoid Alcohol Intoxication

Most people have experienced alcohol intoxication at least once. If this has happened to you, then you know that there are times when you want to avoid it. Being intoxicated can be very disconcerting. It can also be very frustrating and annoying if you did not plan on having it happen to you. The following are a few things that you can do to help you avoid this problem the next time that you are around alcohol or in a situation in which you have chosen to drink.

1. Eat A Lot Food

Having food in your stomach helps to absorb the alcohol that you drink. This can keep it from going too quickly to your blood stream, which is what causes you to feel drunk. If you have options, you should try to eat as many bread-based products as you can. These do the best job of absorbing the alcohol and keeping you from feeling its effects.

2. Drink Extra Water

Drinking a glass of water with your alcoholic drink is also a good idea. You could even try having one glass of water between every alcoholic drink, just to break things up. Just like the food, this can help to dilute the other drinks that you have had. It also forces you to drink less because you will be busy with the glass of water. You will not drink alcohol because you are bored and want to have a glass of something in your hand.

3. Get Enough Sleep

Studies have shown that people who do not get enough sleep will act like they are drunk much faster than those who are properly rested. Some people who have been deprived for days of sleep have appeared to be drunk after a single drink. If you get enough sleep the night before you go out, you will feel better.

4. Drink Slowly

Take your time. Two drinks that are taken only a minute apart are going to impact you much more significantly than two drinks taken over a longer period of time. Many people aim to have only one drink for every hour that they are out.

These are the four main things that you should do if you want to avoid alcohol intoxication in the future. You always have the choice of just not drinking, of course, but you may find yourself in a social situation in which you want to have a bit to drink without actually becoming drunk. If you do everything that is mentioned above, you will be able to enjoy yourself without taking things too far. This is also a good way to avoid having a hangover the next day, something that can be very unpleasant.
