Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies, for as he thinks in his heart, so is he“. Proverbs 23:7
I’m sure you’ve heard this proverb many times. The writer is essentially telling you to stay away from persons who are narrow thinkers and are small minded.
Do you know that your thoughts shape your reality? Whatever you think or whatever information you put into your head has the power to shape your entire future. The quality of your life is shaped by the quality of your thoughts.
So, how do you go about ensuring that you fill your life with quality thoughts and ideas? By reading quality books.
Here’s another proverb to ponder on:
“Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding, for the profit of wisdom is better than silver and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies, nothing you desire can compare with her.” Proverbs 3:13-15
To desire wisdom gives you the potential of becoming wealthy than actually pursuing wealth. A wealth of sound knowledge will carry you through life much easier than material possessions.
Keep in mind also that, even though formal education is necessary and important, you cannot depend on that alone to gain knowledge. The words of Jim Rohn holds true when he said: “Formal education makes you a living, while self education makes you a fortune”.
Self education allows you to create a real fortune. Reading exposes you to unlimited ideas. One idea can change your life forever. Take the ideas you have formulated and put them into action, and your life will be shaped and molded in a marvelous way.
Thomas Carlyle once said: “What we become depends on what we read after all the professors are finished with us. The greatest university of all is the collection of books“
Read success and self help books. Try to read at least one book a month, and you can achieve this by reading for about 15 minutes a day. Remember the quality of what you read determines the quality of person you become.
Feed your mind with gems of wisdom everyday and include the bible in your daily readings. Why?
“For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly… Then you will understand what is right, just and fair, and you will know how to find the right course of action every time. For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.” Proverbs 2:6-7, 9-11.
